I’m Tom Six. I’m a writer and researcher working on relationships between politics, culture and performance in the contemporary world.
I’m Reader in Politics and Performance at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in the University of London.
Following a stint as a theatre director and teacher of acting and directing, my early academic work was primarily about the politics of how theatre was made in the twentieth century. I now write mostly about race and racism, and how they are represented and manifested in cultural forms in the UK and beyond. I also think about how performance offers a conceptual vocabulary for understanding race as a political phenomenon.
You can find all of my published writing on this site, as well as a blog linked to my research. You can also subscribe to my Substack here (it’s free). My full academic research profile is on ORCiD.
(Before 2023, I was called Tom Cornford. I’m not the horror movie guy.)
